A nine-year-old girl was injured by a buffalo in the famous American National Park in Yellowstone on Monday,  after the animal loaded a group of tourists who ventured a little too close to it, park officials said.

The incident occurred when about 50 people approached about three metres from the buffalo, staying there for about 20 minutes before the charge.

50 people were within 10 metres of the buffalo

The child was quickly taken care of by the park’s medical staff before being admitted to a clinic. The extent of her injuries was not revealed, but she has since returned home, according to the American daily.

Following this misadventure, many American media outlets reminded park visitors to be vigilant when approaching wildlife. « According to witnesses, a group of about 50 people were at a distance of 5 to 10 metres from the bison[and observed it] for at least 20 minutes before it loaded[the child], » the National Park Service said in a press release. However, the park regulations stipulate that visitors are prohibited from standing in the vicinity of wildlife.
