2018, a record year for Chicago’s film industry


Last year, more than 500 film projects were held in Chicago. This had a positive impact on the local economy, amounting to $474 million. In total since 2011, Chicago’s film industry has created 90,000 jobs and completed 3,700 projects, generating more than $2.6 billion. Almost 2,2500 permits were issued to support 520 film projects.

9 seasons of television series have been shot entirely in Chicago and 4 in part, including Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, Chicago Med, Empire, The Chi, Shameless.

Cinespace Chicago Film Studios is one of the largest film studios in the country with 31 film sets, soon to be 37 when the expansion work is completed.

In 2018, the Millennium Park Film Series screened 14 films for free, attracting more than 100,000 spectators at the Pritzker Pavilion.

The 2019 edition will take place every Tuesday at 6:30 pm between June and August.
